Overview Mapping elements

Overview

Compliance crosswalks are a way to map data standard elements (collected in HMIS data collection workflows and assessments) in ClientTrack to the HMIS Data Standard elements required for compliance reporting.  Mapping these elements is imperative to ensure that reporting from ClientTrack meets these requirements.

Mapping elements

To map compliance crosswalks in ClientTrack, navigate to:

Global Administration > System Administration > Compliance Management > Compliance Crosswalks

You must first select the element which you would like to map.  Some of the most common elements that need to be mapped for accurate compliance reporting are Race, Gender, Veteran Status, Prior Living Situation, Exit Destination and Relationship to Head of Household.

Each element will have a Compliance Standard drop-down list.  For HMIS, select the most up-to-date standard in the list (HMIS 2024, for example).  Once you select the Compliance Standard, you should see the option to map each element to a Standard Value (drop down list).

In many cases, mapping these values in ClientTrack is simple due to the one-to-one relationship between what is available on the standard drop down list and what HUD considers standard data collection elements.  Let's look at Race, for example.

Each Standard Value (right) has a matching element (left) which should be mapped.

For instances where you are unsure which standard values should match to which elements, refer to HUD's Instructions for Mapping Existing HMIS Data for 2024 Data Standards Elements file.
